"TRYING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE"
Oct. 12th, 2015 04:07 pmThis is a post on Facebook by Mick Foley (about whom I have posted before). It is about the pandemic of gun violence that continues to plague the United States of America. Mr. Foley is also active in the comments underneath his post, which is a rare thing compared to so many other celebrities, who tend to just use social media (and Facebook in particular) as a sort of fire-and-forget press release regurgitation machine. The comments actually seem to have a relatively low chaff-to-wheat ratio, which is somewhat surprising given the subject, but that is due to the fact that Mick himself is actively responding to people down there and trying to keep things civil. I mean, sure, you do have some of the typical asinine shitheads that you'd normally see under a post like that, posting their cutesy little pro-gun/anti-gun control image macros and whatnot, as if those stupid things actually constitute a cogent counterargument, but there are not as many of those braying jackasses down there as you might expect, which is a nice change of pace for once. (EDIT) That said, though, in addition to some gun nuts being present, there are a fair few "Feminism! *hiss* *makes sign of the cross* Not all men!" types down in the comments there, too. Sad, that. (/EDIT)
In his Facebook post, Mr. Foley links to this article on Huffington Post. I read that article, and when the second sentence mentioned 4chan, I just had to sigh wearily and nod my head, not surprised in the slightest. Essentially, the gist of the article is that gun violence in America, at least in part, is still a Thing™ for much the same reasons that GamerGate ended up being a Thing™ for more than just a couple of days after it spawned from the putrid bowels of the Internet that is 4chan. (Also, the comments under the article have a much higher chaff-to-wheat ratio, such as is typical.)
I think I'll just limit my comments beyond that to simply "^This" and be done with it. At the moment, I don't feel like ranting about this goddamn fucking ridiculous idiotic bullshit yet again.
