Tell Me Why
Jun. 6th, 2021 05:01 pmJust finished Tell Me Why, which I got for free the other day.
It's pretty good. You play alternately as a trans man named Tyler Ronan, and his identical twin sister Alyson, who have been apart for 10 years prior to the start of the game. They meet up again and go on their way to clean out their childhood home in order to sell it. I won't say more about the story because of spoilers, but I think it's interesting. There is a mystery to be solved.
It's mostly a walking simulator, i.e. walking around, looking at stuff, talking to people, though there are some puzzles and collectibles scattered here and there to solve and find. There is a vague, mostly unexplained supernatural element where the twins are able to speak to each other telepathically, as well as see visions of things that happened in the past... though the twins don't always remember things the same way.
If I squint really hard and tilt my head at a 90° angle, I can maybe see how rancid asshats would view this game as having an "agenda" or whatever, but then, I see that as merely "caring, thoughtful human beings telling a good story," rather than "hurrdurr LGBTQ agenda herpityderp SJWs ruin everything harglebargle," so... yeah. *shrug* There's nothing whatsoever about this game that stinks of extremism, for instance, at least not as I perceive it.
In any case, just to say it again, the whole game, all three chapters of it, is free to download for keeps during the month of June, so the only thing you're spending to play it is time. Steam says I played it for 14.2 hours. I didn't get all the achievements, though, but I don't think I will bother, either, because I have no interest in doing a "bad" playthrough in which the twins' bond is broken by the end of the game.
(EDIT) Just to note, I had this game on my wishlist prior to it being made available for free, so I very likely would have bought it eventually once the second and third chapters had hit a suitable discount, anyway, and hey, free is definitely a suitable enough discount, so yeah. (/EDIT)
