A post on Wil Wheaton dot net.

And here is the thing Mr. Wheaton is talking about in that post:

I'd watch the shit out of that if it were a real show and not just a two minute "what if" thing. Star Trek: The Animated Series was legitimately good, for the most part (even with the corny 70s animation, which is on glorious display here).

I mean, assuming that this actually is exactly what it says on the tin, then it's pretty cool, at least what little I've listened to so far.

Of course, if it's not what it claims to be, then... well... it's just... kind of mediocre music made by some human meatbag, I guess?

Full headline, due to limitations of Dreamwidth: "Hello Games Says New Project Is So Ambitious It Would 'Seem Impossible' Even With a 1,000 Person Team"

"Speaking to IGN, studio co-founder and managing director Sean Murray said that, while it's not a sequel to No Man's Sky, the new game is just as ambitious.

"He said: 'For a while now we've been working on something pretty ambitious in the background. It's a small team but we like it that way.

'Similar to
No Man's Sky, it's the kind of project that even if we had a thousand people working on it, it'd still seem impossible.'"

...

Did this stupid motherfucker learn nothing from No Man's Sky? Nobody, not a single person, should believe even one vacuous, fatuous word that comes out of Peter Molyneux'sSean Murray's mouth, at least not until this new game has been out for at least five years and has actually shown itself to be worth the hype, which No Man's Sky absolutely did not, at least not when it originally launched.

And some would say not even now. Like Fable before it, as I've said several times in the past, No Man's Sky as it exists now is a good enough game on its own merits, sure, but it is not the imaginary, non-existent, pie in the sky that was presented to the world prior to its actual release. And it never will be that, I don't care how many more years worth of free content updates Hello Games may release for it.

I fear this new thing will end up the same way. Whatever this new thing is, if it turns out as passably okay as No Man's Sky has, then that would be great and all, but nobody should be boarding the hype train based on Sean Murray's word or based on any pre-release trailers, that's for goddamn sure.

(Cut/pasted all the below stuff out of that other post to make it its own post.)

In semi-related news, apparently some new pirate update for No Man's Sky comes out soon, if it isn't already. Given that I don't care about the combat and I have no real interest in being a pirate or whatever, it's not something that enthuses me all that much. If anything, depending upon how pervasive this new content might be, it could serve to make me actively less interested in playing the game. On the other hand, I still have the game installed (though I haven't touched it at all since the last time I posted about it here), so I'll probably check it out, regardless. *shrug*

Maybe the new capes will make everything worthwhile, though. ¬_¬

(EDIT) Steam actually just started a new 7GB update for NMS almost as soon as I completed this post, as if on cue. (/EDIT)

(EDIT 2) Right, so, I loaded into my game from before, and, after calling in my freighter to get access to the storage containers so that I could repair all my shit, I went back to my settlement in the old galaxy (after first making sure I had a base with a teleporter in the new galaxy so I could get back later). Got attacked by Sentinels, as expected, since it has been a while. Dealt with those, as per usual.

Then, my settlement was attacked by pirate ships, which is a new thing. So I jumped into my ship and started fighting. Almost immediately, I encountered a pirate ship that had infinite shields, meaning it was unkillable. But that was okay, because it did absolutely nothing but fly in a straight line away from my settlement while I chased it and shot at it for 30 seconds or so. Off to a good start. (/EDIT 2)
