Past couple of days have been some bullshit...
(I'm at my [other] sister's house right now, using their Internet via my laptop.)
So, around 11:00pm EDT or so, Sunday (Aug 15), the power suddenly went out and I heard a noise. Wasn't loud, a bit muffled, but I thought at first that a transformer down the road had blown or something. But when I managed to find a flashlight and left my room, the outside light in the front yard was still shining in through the windows, meaning that only the power to the house itself was out. I woke up my sister (the one I normally live with, not the one mentioned above), and then I went outside to look around toward the side of the house where the power line coming into the house is located. Well, it turned out that a tree had fell, landing partially on another tree that was closer to the house, which in turn cause several limbs from that tree to fall, which took out the power line. (We're lucky that shit didn't fall on the house itself, but that's neither here nor there.)
We called Duke Energy to report it, around midnight or so, and they showed up at around 2:00am. Good news, (they said, when my sister went out to talk to them) was that it would be easy to fix... if, bad news, it hadn't also taken out the meter box. So, before Duke Energy would do anything (aside from disconnect the downed power line to make sure it wasn't still live), we needed to have someone else come out and install a new meter. And then, after that, we had to get someone to come and inspect it. Only after all of that will Duke Energy come back, finally, and put the cable itself back up. As far as I am aware, as of today, right now, everything has been repaired, and the only remaining bottleneck is waiting for the inspection to occur.
We spent the night at our own house that night. I was worried it would get too hot in there, without AC, but after opening several windows that probably hadn't been opened in years, it cooled off enough to not be a problem. Next day, my (third, different from the two previously mentioned) sister and her husband came over with some coolers to take stuff out of the fridge and freezer, then my sister (the one I live with; just to be clear, I only have three sisters) and I came over here to my other sister's house to stay last night, until everything is fixed. And, again, as far as I'm aware now, it pretty much is fixed, except for the inspection.
However, last night, when I turned on my computer and (finally) got properly connected to the Wifi here at this house, I was having weird connection issues, in that I could only connect to Google sites and maybe a few others, but most every other site (e.g. Dreamwidth, Twitter, Duckduckgo, etc.) were returning "Server not found" errors. And by the time I realized that, it was already around 11:00pm and everyone else had already gone to bed, so oh well. Apparently it was an issue with the router, because after they reset the router this morning, the Internet on my computer started working normally again. And, thus, here I am, making this post.
