Yeah, I'm still kind of keeping half an eye on all the drama going on, out of sheer morbid curiosity, but aside from that, I'm pretty much done with it all.

Can't say I ever really paid much attention to Channel Awesome. I did watch some of the videos here and there I'm sure, but as a channel as a whole, never even realized it was much of a Thing. I've downloaded the documents to read although haven't gone through them yet although I've watched a few videos of people going on about it so I'm sure it'll be as big and smelly a latrine as you say it is when I do decide to give this a bit of time.

A few of the complaints seem to be just petty, sour grapes shit, especially some of the ones on the fan complaints document, but most of the stuff seems legit to me (and I mean that in the literal sense and not the sarcastic "seems legit" meme-y sense).

Most of it is along the lines of "these guys are incredibly shitty and incompetent and negligent," but some of it seems borderline genuinely criminal to me, like firing the woman a day after her surgery because she missed one day, after working practically every day for them prior to that (yes, Illinois is an "at will" state so they can fire her for whatever, but it's still really shitty), and then (the actual part that seems criminal to me) forcing her to sign a non-compete contract before they would give her any severance pay. And for all the people who are still, even now, trying to defend Doug Walker (aka the Nostalgia Critic) as a sort of aloof, "doesn't want conflict which is why he doesn't run the company himself" kind of guy who is mostly ignorant of the shady bullshit going on around him, it was apparently Doug himself who was the deciding vote as to whether or not she was fired or not.

Basically, the general consensus seems to be that Doug Walker is a clueless moron who doesn't know nearly as much about film theory and application as he likes to pretend he does and certainly doesn't know a damn thing about running a business, his brother Rob is a bona fide asshole who doesn't give a shit about much of anything that's going on and even actively participates in the bullshit more often than not, and then whoever the fuck that Mike Michaud guy is is the real problem behind everything else. Not to downplay the role of the Walker brothers in all of it, but it seems to me like that Michaud guy kind of has them over a barrel, what with him bizarrely owning the Nostalgia Critic IP rather than the them, the guys who actually created it (another indicator that they don't have a fucking clue what they're doing), and they pretty much can't do anything to rein him in even if they did want to (and there's been no real indication that they want to), so they just try to distance themselves from whatever bullshit he's doing behind the scenes (except, of course, in the cases where it seems like they're actively involved in said bullshit).

Hell, if you go to their website (I wouldn't recommend it anymore), there are only four third party shows left under the "Shows" tab, when there used to be dozens.

Channel Awesome is fucked, aside from being the platform for the Nostalgia Critic by itself. They might as well just turn it back into That Guy With The Glasses at this point.

This kind of reminds me of back in the OtakuWars! when I (and some others) got into it with the Tuxedo Clown guy, and he kept throwing cherry-picked excerpts of ICQ chat logs and emails and bits of the OW! FAQ at us to try to "prove" that it was not him but us who were the ones in the wrong about whatever the petty fuck. Except, you know, on a much larger scale than that.

I was kind of curious about that in a way actually. This weekend when he was at PAX doing a last minute panel someone asked him what he thought about Channel Awesome. It seemed obvious to me that Joe wasn't aware of what was going on with CA from his response since he was more or less favorable about them although he pointed out he had virtually nothing to do with CA - they just scraped his videos for their channel.

Kinda made me wonder if the person asking that question at the panel was trying to bait him or something. ^^ (You know how some of his 'fans' are.)
