UPS/USPS fuckery

Looks like my stuff is supposed to be delivered today ("by 9:00pm"), but the most recent updates (via both the UPS tracking and the USPS tracking websites), says it's still sitting in New Jersey. The most recent UPS tracking update, from December 31, says "12/31/2020 4:25 A.M. - Avenel, NJ, United States - Package transferred to destination UPS Mail Innovations facility," and the most recent USPS tracking update, from December 30, just says "December 30, 2020, 12:59 am - Arrived Shipping Partner Facility, USPS Awaiting Item - AVENEL, NJ 07001 - Shipping Partner: UPS MAIL INNOVATIONS - Your item arrived at a shipping partner facility at 12:59 am on December 30, 2020 in AVENEL, NJ 07001. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date."

So, as such, I have absolutely no idea where my shit is or when (or if) I'll actually get it. *weary goddamn sigh*

I should note, too, that the other part of my order (which NewEgg split into two separate orders, for whatever reason), was shipped via FedEx, not UPS or USPS, and it was delivered at my sister's place of work on December 31 at 10:05am. That, however, was merely the converter thing. The delivery that is griping my ass now, the one that was shipped via UPS, is the one with the actual SSD drives themselves.

I note, also, that I do not have a similar "fedex sucks" tag.

Granted, both UPS and USPS have some blah blah blah on their tracking sites about how COVID-19 is fucking everything up so there may be delays yadda yadda yadda, so I'm not too awfully butt-griped about this, or at least not as much as I'd likely otherwise be.

The website will only reflect things they electronically scan, when they scan it, most likely. So there's technically a chance it might show up before it gets an actual update on the website - and then your signing off on it ends up updating it as delivered.

Not sure how swamped couriers and the like are these days with the pandemic technically still on the go. I know in Canada, particularly back in the spring/early summer people were ordering shit online a lot. In some cases simply because of lockdowns making it the only way to order from some companies. That caused delays to the tune of 2-3 extra weeks. For instance, the shipments I talk about below would normally have taken just 3-4 days to arrive, but instead took closer to a month. In one split-shipment case, one half of it wasn't updating in location at all until right before it was delivered.

Regarding split shipments, large companies often have warehouses at different places in the country with different parts of their inventory. Odds are the converter was only available at a separate location so it got sent on it's own. (Or vice versa - perhaps the SD drives were only available from a second warehouse that's further away.)

Same kind of deal happened when I ordered some manga from Chapter's online site indigo earlier this year. Some of the older volumes were apparently only in their BC store while the rest was available still in their ontario location. So to save costs they shipped whatever they could from the closest locations first rather than just filling the order entirely from the much farther location even if it had everything I requested.

Two days later and the SSDs still haven't gotten here yet. On the "bright" side, the package is apparently gathering dust in a facility in NC now, at least, rather than NJ. USPS still claims to not have it yet.

I think a lot of it is just that UPS sucks ass, in general. I mean, my sister has ordered shit in the days after I ordered my shit, and even that has gotten here earlier. And the FedEx part of my own order was delivered three days after it shipped out.

And another day passes without my shit being delivered. And given that it's supposed to snow tomorrow, and my sister has already mentioned that she probably won't go to work tomorrow as a result, it'll very likely be next week sometime before I get my shit, even if they were to deliver it tomorrow.

So, of course, that is exactly what happened. They delivered to my sister's work today. She didn't go to work today due to snow. And the worst part about it is that it didn't even fucking snow worth a shit.

Oh well, I waited this long, I can wait three more days. *weary sigh*
