Vampire Survivors
(Just to note, this here is not one of the series of posts that I am still planning to complete at some point. This one is all its own thing that just kind of snuck itself in here.)
So, speaking of those clicker/idler games...
I bought and started playing Vampire Survivors right around five days ago. It is an Early Access game (yeah, yeah, I know, I said I was done with those, but I made an exception here, for this), and it costs $2.99 USD. Vampire Survivors, on first glance, kind of does look like a clicker/idler game. Pat even calls it a clicker/idler game in the above videos.
Vampire Survivors, however, is not a clicker/idler game. Or, at least, I don't see it as one.
When I first started playing it, it seemed pretty lame (even for a clicker/idler game). Your first dude has the whip. All you can do is move him around. He attacks with his whip, horizontally, in the direction you're facing, automatically, once every couple seconds or so. You don't actually have any real control over when he (or any of the other characters) launches an attack. I was like "What the fuck is this shit?" But I kept playing it.
Then I leveled up and got to pick a new weapon. Then I leveled up again and got to pick another new weapon. Then I leveled up again... maybe picked a passive bonus item that time, I don't recall now, or maybe I made one of the weapons or passive items I already had more powerful, such as making the whip attack behind you as well as in front of you (which seemed like a fucking game changer the very first time I got that upgrade, let me just say). Then I managed to kill a boss monster, which dropped a chest, which randomly gave me a free upgrade to one of the items I had. Then I killed a boss, which dropped a chest, which randomly gave me five free upgrades to five of the items I had (or upgraded one of those items two or three times just like that). Then I killed a boss, which dropped a chest, which not-so-randomly evolved one of the weapons I had into a fucking super weapon (I think my first one was the wand into the infinitely constantly auto-firing wand, iirc, but I've since evolved all of the weapons to which I have access and which can currently be evolved, at least once each). Then, eventually, I made it to the 30 minute mark on one of the levels, and the Grim fucking Reaper blitzed in and insta-killed me, ending that run. Then, eventually, I unlocked an item that shows four hidden items, which will show up in every level after that point. Then, eventually, I finally managed to get all of those four hidden items without dying, because it should be mentioned that every time you first reach one of those items, a mega-boss spawns which proceeds to chase you throughout the stage and takes a long-ass time to kill. Then, eventually, I managed to level up all four of those hidden items to their max level, which allowed me to evolve two items that previously didn't have evolutions into items that had pretty fucking crazy evolutions. Then, using those two busted evolved weapons, I killed a Grim Reaper. Then, though I haven't yet managed to kill another Grim Reaper, I have managed to survive for one extra minute on a couple of other stages after the Grim Reaper shows up at the 30 minute mark and tries to end me, which unlocks new Arcanas, and one of those Arcanas pulls every item, drop, and light source on the map right to you, every two minutes, including right at the very start of the round, and this includes those four hidden items, which then spawns all four mega-bosses right there at the very start of the level, who them chase you forever until you're strong enough to kill them (it's not as bad as it sounds, because when you do kill them, they drop permanent upgrades to the character you're playing in that round, for all future rounds with that character). Then, using the Grim Reaper character that I unlocked when I killed the Grim Reaper as I mentioned several sentences ago (Mask of the Red Death is what he's called in this game), I managed to reach the coffin on the fifth level (I'd already managed to find the coffin on all of the previous levels, each of which did a "sorry, but the vampire is in another coffin" Mario thing, and then unlocked another character to play as), which, after a fucking crazy, harrowing scenario that I won't spoil, it unlocked yet another character. I still haven't seen an actual vampire yet, as far as I'm aware (unless some of the playable characters are vampires, because, I mean, at least two of them look exactly like fucking Alucard from Symphony of the Night).
And so on and so forth, yadda yadda yadda, blah blah blah. I left out a whole shit-ton of other stuff that happened, of course.
Steam says I've played Vampire Survivors for 21.9 hours so far, as of the writing of this post.
As of the current build, via looking at the wiki for the game, I know I still have at least one more character and associated weapon to unlock that I haven't done yet, and I know there's some crazy passive item you can unlock if you somehow manage to have all six of your chosen weapons become evolved in the course of a single run, which I also haven't done yet. However, who knows what other new shit will be added to the game the next time it is updated? Yeah, this game is fucking crack. But, unlike most clicker/idler games, this one requires way more attention and strategy. You're not just clicking the mouse randomly, and (if you want to fucking stay alive for more than a minute or so) you're not just moving around at random, either. Pat says he is able to just park a character and walk away and come back later to find them still alive or whatever, but I have not quite reached that point yet. I'm pretty sure I could fairly easily make a build that could achieve that, but I haven't done it yet, and I'm not really sure it would interest me to do so. Because, honestly, if I ever reached the point where the game started playing itself, that's probably when I'd lose interest in it.

himher as my character (thedudechick who starts with the axe). Well, though I didn't get the kill 3000 dragon shrimp thing, I did survive 15 minutes as Lama and also hit level 99 (actually around 105 or some such by the end) withhimher, which unlocked another Arcana, but, more importantly, I also pretty easily (more easily than I thought it would be) got the "evolve all six weapons" thing (using axe, whip, wand, cross, bible, and garlic, all evolved by around the 20 minute mark), which unlocked Torrona's Box. Haven't played with that yet, so dunno how busted it really is though it sounds pretty busted, but that's probably my next goal later. That and to continue the "kill 3000 dragon shrimp" thing. And yeah, at least until Death showed up and insta-killed me at 30 minutes, I probably could have just parked Lama somewhere and walked away from the game. Also, even though I saved the "suck all items to you" Arcana as the last one I got this time (since I only had that and two others unlocked at the time and was forced to pick a third one after the 22 minute mark), I was still able to max all of the four hidden items in the time remaining. Also killed those four "mega"-bosses that spawn with those in about a minute or so after they arrived, if even that long (i.e. basically four "free" Golden Eggs for Lama). The only reason Death insta-killed me was because I didn't have anything mitigating damage and didn't have the time stop weapon. When I play Gallo Tower again, I'll probably go for evolving the Lancet and Laurel again, so that I can at the very least get the "survive 31 minutes" thing (which you can do without evolving those, as long as you at least have them) for Gallo, if not actually kill Death again.
