"Microsoft acquires Obsidian Entertainment"

God fucking dammit.

Requiescat in pace, Obsidian Entertainment. You will be sorely missed, the same way I miss pre-2007 BioWare.

Obsidian had taken up the CRPG banner that was dropped when BioWare went down. I wonder who will be able to step up to take that fallen banner now.

(EDIT)

Oh, looks like Microsoft also bought inXile Entertainment the same day they bought Obsidian. Jesus dicksucking fuck. -_-

Look, I know people are like "buh buh but it's not so bad." No, fuck off. Microsoft bought Lionhead. Lionhead is dead now. Fable and Black & White are dead now. Microsoft bought Rare. Rare is basically dead now. Most of Rare's shit is dead now, or else is microtransactioned up the wazoo, which is as good as dead. Microsoft bought Mojang. Mojang is dead now. Minecraft is as good as dead now (as far as I am concerned, anyway).

Whether it is Microsoft or Electronic Arts or Activision or whoever, it doesn't matter. Every single fucking time a big company like that buys smaller companies like Obsidian or inXile or Lionhead or Mojang or Rare or BioWare or Westwood Studios or Origin Systems or Maxis or who the fuck ever else, those smaller companies invariably end up either as non-existent or as in-name-only shambling zombies of their former selves, and their once great IPs invariably end up either equally non-existent or as decrepit corpses of their former selves, chock full of dumb fucking bullshit.

So I say, again, requiescat in pace, Obsidian. Requiescat in pace, inXile. Requiescat in pace, all the other little guy video game developers that sold out to the Microsoft/EA/Activision/whatever devil.

Thank you, fuck you, bye.

(/EDIT)

(Man, though, am I glad that I care so much less about the goings on of the modern video game industry now than I did back in 2007, or this would have hit me way harder than it does.)
