"Search term + Reddit = John Oliver?"
Not sure what Perspectives is, aside from what it says in the article there. Sounds like yet another thing Google will kill in a few years out of nowhere when it turns out to not be making them enough money.
"Perspectives is a filter on top of Google's search results that users can select to view only 'long- and short-form videos, images and written posts that people have shared on discussion boards, Q&A sites, and social media platforms,' according to a May 10 Google blog post. A graphic on the blog shows results coming from the likes of Reddit, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, and Quora."
Yeah, if that's all it is, then it's already worse than useless, as far as I'm concerned. If anything, most of that shit would be the shit I'd want to filter out, instead of the only thing I see. Even now, I already ignore all the dumb Youtube results that too often tend to litter the top of Google search results in favor of scrolling down to see actual results.
Here is a The Verge article about it.
"My colleague David Pierce described the Perspectives results as something that looks 'more like Pinterest than a typical set of Google results,' and based on what I’ve seen, that feels like an accurate characterization."
Man, I don't think I've ever intentionally clicked on a link to a Pinterest page, and the ones I've visited by accident, they were utterly worthless to me, particularly since I don't have a Pinterest account, which apparently locks a lot of shit out (similar to how most other websites on the Internet lock a bunch of shit away if you don't have accounts with them these days).
Maybe I'll just switch back to using DuckDuckGo more often, at least up until that also becomes a capitalistic trash heap similar to how Google is today, anyway. "What about Bing?" Yeah, what about Bing? ¬_¬
Honestly, if I really wanted or needed to see something on Reddit (or Youtube or Quora or Twitter or, ha ha, TikTok, as if that'll ever happen), then I could... and follow me on this... fucking go to the actual fucking Reddit website and explicitly search there. I don't need Google to be acting as a mere frontend for those sites (and seemingly only those sites).
Oh, and something something Reddit is still a dumpster fire.
