A story on the radio about the PS3 launch
Nov. 16th, 2006 09:25 amThere was a small story on the radio (aka mainstream, usually clueless, non-gaming media) this morning about the PS3 launch. The story was about some kid ("kid" being how the radio guy kept referring to him) who was standing in line somewhere for a PS3. This "kid" had apparently hired 4 other people to stand in line with him to get one as well. This store, according to the radio, only had about 25 or so allocated units for launch. His sole purpose for acquiring these PS3s, again according to the radio, was so that he could then turn around and hock them all on eBay for three to four times the price.
In my not at all humble opinion, people like this need to . There are going to be PS3 shortages anyway, apparently, which is all Sony's fault. However, asshats like this guy are only making the situation that much worse for people who want a PS3 to, oh... I don't know... actually play the thing, rather than to scam some desperate fool on eBay.
And, again in my not so humble opinion, if one is so desperate that one feels one has to pay thousands of dollars to play the damn thing right now, then one is indeed a fool, and these people are the ones making asshats like those other guys even possible in the first place. I'm not sure which I detest more here, the people doing the scamming, or the people willing to be scammed. Yeah, yeah, I know, what some moron with more money than sense chooses to do with said money is none of my business, but the whole situation still pisses me off on general principle.
And to think, I don't even care about the PS3, and this still irritates me. I can't imagine what the 26th guy in the above line would feel like if he found out that the only way he could get a PS3 now would be to buy it for three times the price from one of the guys that were in line in front of him (or else, go to another store or, I dunno... maybe wait and get one later).
(EDIT)
P.S. I apologize to any DigiPen students that I may have inadvertantly condemned to . You guys will be missed. ;_;
