Pandora vs Last.fm
Mar. 16th, 2010 10:45 amIs it just me, or does it seem as though in Pandora whatever you put in as "artist seed" or "song seed" is something that pretty much never actually gets played in the channel on which it is based?
Seriously, I put in Utada and I'm getting stuff like Lady Gaga or whatever. I put in Insane Clown Posse and I'm getting stuff like The Bloodhound Gang. What gives? How are those similar?
Also, while I'm complaining, the artist/song tags in Pandora are screwy (and sometimes just flat out wrong) when imported into Last.fm via lastpandora.com.
I'm forced to use Pandora for music listening purposes, because the HDD at work on which I was storing my music got formatted due to it being chewed up with bad sectors, and because my computer at home is on the fritz, I can't restock. I suppose I could just start using Last.fm directly, for a change.

Okay, so Last.fm seems to be marginally better. It keeps the music at least remotely within the same genre as the seed, for what it's worth, at least in the case of Utada, so far anyway. Haven't tried anything else yet, though.
