Stay classy, Faux Noise.
"Carole Lieberman, a psychiatrist and book author, told FoxNews.com that sexual situations and acts in video games -- highlighted so well in Bulletstorm -- have led to real-world sexual violence.
'The increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of [sexual] scenes in video games,' she said."
Seriously, FOX? Even though there's apparently no actual sex in this game, aside from the asinine "Skill Shots" quotes stuff and "edgy" (read: retarded) dialogue? First it was an increase in murders because video games, and now it's an increase in rapes because video games. Look, I'm not saying this game isn't some stupid, disgusting stuff. It probably is. I don't know. It's not out yet and I haven't played it (nor do I have any interest in doing so). However, I will go out on a limb here and say that it's most likely not the bane of civilization that Faux Noise is making it out to be here.
At any rate, if anyone younger than 17 is playing this game (because let's not forget that the game has a M RATING after all), it's because parents are being ignorant, as is usually the case. Or, perhaps, they're just more tolerant than Faux Noise thinks they should be when it comes to raising their kids. *shrug* I wouldn't let a kid play it, true enough, but I don't have kids, so that's kind of a moot point. But I'm also not going to scream to the high heavens about "pertektin' thuh chilluns" and try to tell people how they should raise their kids or whatever because of this game either. That sort of thing kind of pisses me off even more than whatever it is that happens to be the flavor-of-the-month societal boogeyman at the moment.
Anyway, thanks to Faux Noise, sales for Bulletstorm are now almost assuredly going to be through the roof, compared to what they probably would have been before. When will these people ever learn that making a big stink about a game like this only makes that game sell more copies?
For the record, I don't give a flying flip about Bulletstorm, any more than I gave a flying flip about Manhunt 2 previously. In fact, prior to seeing that Faux Noise article there, I can honestly say that I'd never even heard of Bulletstorm before. From what I can tell, it sounds like a dumb game that I'd have had no interest in playing anyway, primarily because these so-called "mature" games that are nothing more than over-the-top bloodbaths bore me out of my skull. Which is probably why I'd never heard of it before.
