"Eric Hirshberg points to Skylanders and Call of Duty Elite as evidence of innovation."

Skylanders is a sequel/spin-off to a franchise that's been around since 1998 and Call of Duty: Elite is a service designed to further bmilk players of the Call of Duty games. What, exactly, is innovative about those two things, aside from the way it exploits already existing franchises in order to suck more money out of them and into the pockets of Bobby Kotick? Are Activision and this Chris Pereira guy using a different definition of the word innovative than everyone else is? Then again, this is the same Chris Pereira who thinks that online passes for single-player games are fine and dandy so, I don't know, maybe that stuff really is innovative to him. *shrug*

(EDIT)

"Even Electronic Arts has admitted on more than one occasion that Activision did well with Elite."

Yeah, they're just jealous that they didn't come up with the idea first for Battlefield.
