I am thinking about maybe taking the plunge and buying a Kindle or something similar sometime relatively soon. One reason for this is because when I moved from WA back to NC, I packed up around 10-15 or so large flat rate USPS boxes full of books and had them shipped back to NC, at around $16 per box, and I would like to not ever have to repeat that sort of thing in the future if I can avoid it. Another reason is that I'm thinking that having a single device and reading books off of that would take up a whole lot less space, and would also likely be cheaper in the long run, than buying a bunch of physical books, not to mention more convenient, generally speaking. Ultimately, I think that I would probably buy and read a lot more books via an e-reader than I am currently buying and reading physical books, which would be a good thing for me for several reasons, not the least of which is that one of the most often repeated pieces of advice I've seen for new writers (I don't care for the term "aspiring writer," by the way) is that you just need to read a lot and write a lot.

So now, for those who are familiar with e-readers, given that I know next to jack about this sort of thing myself, would I be okay with just getting a basic Kindle, or would I be better served with going with one of the more expensive models? Apparently, the Paperwhite has better lighting and reduces eye-strain or something like that, among other things? From what I can tell, I think I might probably be fine with the basic one, but again, I know little about it. It looks like I'd also need to get a power adapter, since that is apparently not included.

(EDIT)

As of now, based on this site, I'm also somewhat considering a Kindle Fire HD, the cheapest of the Kindle Fire series, mainly because it apparently supports other stuff beyond just documents (such as audiobooks, etc.) which the basic and Paperwhite do not. It's also cheaper than the Kindle DX, which doesn't appear to support as much stuff despite being more expensive. That said, though, I'm fairly sure I don't need the ability to listen to audiobooks or any of that other stuff, so I'll probably still be fine with a Paperwhite or basic. I don't really want or need a full-on tablet (and if I did, there are probably better options for that), just an e-book reader. And I know I'm definitely not looking to pay more than $150 or so for one, that's for sure. Eh, anyway... mostly just thinking out loud here.
