More and more lately, I've been seeing people starting up Patreon campaigns. If I'm understanding this correctly, this is sort of like Kickstarter or something, except that you're pledging to make monthly recurring contributions based on some arbitrary time or event based goal set by the creator of the campaign, rather than a simple one-time thing?
Yeah... no. Lately, I'm doing good just to be able to kick a one-time $10 or so toward a Kickstarter here and there. No way I'll be doing that for dudes on a repeating basis. Not saying that this whole Patreon thing is a bad idea or anything, though. More power to these guys if they can get people to support them like that, I guess.
