So I'm back now, I guess?
Oct. 16th, 2017 10:03 amWe finally have Internet at the place I am living now anyway, at least. It "only" took exactly three full weeks, as of today, after we initially called (on September 25) Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable) to try to get it set up, before people came out (on this past Friday and today) to actually do something. One dude came out on Sep. 28 and kind of looked around for 10 minutes or so and then said he wouldn't be able to do anything and would call in a work order for a higher tier tech to come out and do something, and then another dude came out on October 2 and marked the phone line, but after that, until the guy came out this past Friday, I don't think anyone else came out here. This, after we called Spectrum multiple times during those weeks of inactivity and were told different, contradicting, incorrect things each time we called them. Ah, I could rant about that for quite a bit, but I think I will stop there. Suffice it to say, as far as setup/installation goes, the actual tech guys who eventually came out and did the installation job were great, but the phone support/customer service people were beyond crap.
The only slight issue is that we're going to need to get a new wireless router, because the one we have now (my old Linksys WRT54GL) is limiting the speed to roughly a quarter of what it should be. Through the wireless, the download speed is around 23 Mbps. If I unplug the router and plug the laptop directly into the modem, the download speed is around 94 Mbps.
So anyway, yeah, I guess I could be considered to be "back," as of now. <Monty Python-style "yay.">
