"All Lives Matter" is the new "Not All Men." (Or maybe it's the other way around, depending on which came first.)

I.e. it's a pointlessly obvious thing to say, which actually actively detracts from the real message of the #BlackLivesMatter movement (or the #MeToo movement, in the case of "Not All Men"), and it makes you look like a real asshole for saying it, especially depending on how you say it or mean it.

(EDIT)

Oh, and speaking of assholes, the biggest, stinkiest, most diarrhetic asshole in the country right now, also known as Donald Trump, just this morning equated protesters with "anarchists, agitators, looters or lowlifes," after he had previously equated them with "terrorists." This is coming from the so-called President of the United States of America. The sooner this asshole is permanently removed from any position of power, the better off everyone in the world will be, and the sooner we can maybe start repairing all the damage that has been done by him and by like-minded assholes.

Full article title, because it won't all fit in Dreamwidth's subject field: "I grew up in rural, small-town America — and I can tell you the real reason why people love Donald Trump"

It is, sadly and frustratingly, spot fucking on.

It will never not be ridiculously unfathomable to me how all these bumpkins, hicks, rednecks, hayseeds, hillbillies, whatever you want to call them, almost uniformly believe, mistakenly, that Donald Trump is "one of them," when, in actual, objective reality, he is pretty much the furthest thing from "one of them" that a person can possibly be. He's just an obvious, brazen conman who merely says he's "one of them," but they are stupid enough, ignorant enough, gullible enough, hateful enough, and militantly willing enough to absorb blatant disinformation from RWNJ "news" media (the purveyors of which are absolutely not "one of them," either) to believe this horseshit. Everything about it is utterly baffling. Or, rather, it's utterly baffling to me that it's still going on, that these people are still, to this day, thoroughly hoodwinked by this flagrant charlatan.

The only way Donald Trump is similar to them, as noted in the article, is that he's also a racist, sexist, otherist asshole, just like they are. If that's really all it takes for him to be "one of them[1]," then oh well. Not much anybody else can do about this, except to wait for all these goddamned morons to finally die off, I guess.

[1] - In this scenario, Trump is the "freak," and all the "ruralites" are the drunk woman, at least while she was still laughing along with them, but before she got pissed and kicked them all out. Hopefully, sooner rather than later, the country will come together in similarly kicking Trump out. (Note, I'm talking only about this particular scene, not the movie as a whole. As far as the movie as a whole goes, it would probably be more accurate, really, to compare the ruralites to the "freaks" and Donald Trump to Cleopatra, since it is she who is trying to fraudulently insinuate herself with them, when she's really only doing it for money, and actually hates them. Again, let's hope that, in the end, the real life scenario works out similarly to how the movie ended, with the ruralites finally realizing what a fraud Trump is and getting their vengeance on him, any which way it plays out. [And, I mean, if we want to compare it to the movie more literally, Trump already has the duck lips, after all. ¬_¬])
