"Five Things: July 19, 2020"
Jul. 20th, 2020 02:47 am(EDIT) And, god damn it, Last Week Tonight just posted a new video about the coronavirus, as well. I'm not watching that tonight. Ugh... (/EDIT)
I just read the post and all, but it's too late at night for me to spend a whole lot of time commenting on it.
The gist (at least of the two points that I was most interested in):
1. Joe Biden's strategy for the time being is apparently simply existing as "not Donald Trump, at least" and keeping a low-ish profile, and that's mostly working just fine, at least for now, and not just because Trump recently seems to have reached yet another height of evil dumbfuckery. (Though I'm sure Trump will top it again at some point later, probably multiple times even, given that he still has another six months as POTUS, even if he doesn't get reelected.)
2. Some say the GOP might implode if/when Trump loses, but I agree with Scalzi that that's incredibly iffy at best. And if they instead double down yet again, as they are much more likely to do, it will not be pretty, because there's really not much left for the GOP to double down to. Definitely nothing that is remotely reasonable. The GOP was full of fuckshittery long before Trump came along, and as such, they'll likely continue to be full of fuckshittery long after Trump has left the scene again. They're going to get worse before they get better, and that's if one naively assumes they ever will get better at all, or even attempt to do so. I'm certainly not going to hold my breath waiting for the GOP to stop being dumbfucking fuckshitters.
