(Oh man, I meant to write this entry several days ago and I completely forgot about it until now.)
My oldest sister (the one with whom I live) and I were out at the home of one of my other sisters (the one with whom my mother lived before she died back in 2019), because the water pump at this house finally died for good last week, a few days before Thanksgiving (and only got fixed as of this past Monday), and while we were there, she said hey did we want to watch Hamilton (the Disney movie version of the Broadway play)? And we were like, sure, why not.
So... yeah. It was pretty good. Great, even. Probably not something that I ever would have actively sought out to watch of my own volition, I have to admit, but I'm glad that I watched it. I'm not sure what I was expecting going in (I guess, like, three hours of nothing but ye olde King's English or some shit), but it wasn't that at all, for the most part. I mean, it was kind of that, a little bit, but with modern lingo/slang all slathered on, too, mostly for comedic effect. And, same as with my sisters, it kind of makes me want to read the book on which it was based, too.
I'll say this, though, same as I told my sister. If she hadn't turned on the captions at the start, I probably would have been out after five minutes or so, because the captions were pretty much required for me to be able to follow what the hell they were actually saying. Sure, the music was good, but if I couldn't have parsed the lyrics, the thing overall wouldn't have been half as good, I think. I definitely wouldn't have wanted to have seen this as an actual Broadway thing, sans captions, as my first experience of it, that's for sure. That said, though, if I ever had the opportunity to watch the actual live play version of it at some point in the future, I wouldn't turn it down.
And, lastly, if absolutely nothing else, it made this thing make a whole lot more sense, too. *nods sagely*
