Thanks, asinine Dreamwidth subject line inadequacy. Full subject line: "Whoopi Goldberg Says 'Blazing Saddles' Absolutely Could Be Made Today - Can This Conversation Be Over Now?"
From the article: "...it's refreshing to hear a veteran comic contradict the mindless narrative that boundary-pushing humor has no place in the modern world."
I.e. multi-million dollar "comedians" (and their braindead fans) incessantly whining about "cancel culture" or whatever.
Here's my take on the whole thing, which mostly agrees with that of Whoopi Goldberg. Far too many of these so-called "comedians" who are currently bawwing into their piles of money about "cancel culture" are so hung up on the "boundary-pushing" that they're severely neglecting the "humor." Supposed "jokes" about, say, trans people[1] aren't bad just because they're dehumanizing and legitimately harmful[2], they're also bad because they simply are not funny.[3] Jokes about trans people are the new jokes about gay people are the new jokes about black people are the new jokes about foreigners are the new jokes about women and so on and so forth all the way back to the fucking Paleolithic era. The "comedians" who make "jokes" like this are not even doing the "boundary-pushing" that they mistakenly think they're doing. It is banal as all fuck.
Meanwhile, Blazing Saddles is still funny, for all the reasons stated by Whoopi Goldberg above.
[1] - Man, seriously, I just feel so horrible for poor poor Dave Chappelle, who absolutely was just completely cancelled forever for that obnoxious horseshit.
[2] - You may think you're "just joking, bruh," but far too many (i.e. more than zero) deranged assholes are explicitly taking your "jokes" as carte blanche for murder. See also: the unending lies of "entertainment media" like Faux Noise and such.
[3] - Yeah, yeah, "humor is subjective..." ...fuck off. If you think derogatory "jokes" about trans/gay/black/foreign/female people are funny, then you're fully entitled to feel that way, but I'm also entitled to label you as what you are: a rancid piece of shit with a piss-poor sense of "humor." Simple as.
