Feedly vs Inoreader
Jun. 28th, 2024 06:55 pmDue to this stuff, I decided to (maybe) move away from Feedly (which I started using years ago after Google Reader was killed by Google for whatever asinine reasons) and give another RSS reader a try. In the comments under that Scalzi post, Inoreader kept appearing, so that's the one I went with.
At first, I started trying to add everything by hand, one-by-one, by loading up the actual page I wanted to follow via Feedly, then manually adding it to the feed on Inoreader, but after half a dozen or so, I realized this was dumb and that there had to be an easier way. Turns out there was. You can export Feedly into a opml file, then import that into Inoreader.
Except... I had 200+ feeds I was following in Feedly (free version), and Inoreader (free version) apparently has a max of 150. So, I basically had to go through my Feedly shit one-by-one anyway and cull out anything that I didn't really care to follow anymore. Mainly, that was stuff in the "Random Youtube" and "Music Youtube" folders, for stuff that either hadn't updated in 5+ years or stuff that I had originally followed because they were doing video game cover music but now were no longer doing that. Also, I nuked the vast majority of the "Creepypasta" folder, leaving basically just the DarkHarvest00 Youtube channel (and if they hadn't recently updated, I'd have probably just nuked the whole folder entirely). And then, of course, because I had already added a few by hand, when I imported the thing from Feedly, there were some duplicates, so I ended up just deleting everything and then reimporting the thing from Feedly again. In the end, I am following 136 feeds now (on both Feedly and Inoreader), and Inoreader is giving me a "Maximum subscriptions nearly reached" warning whenever I go into the "Manage feeds" thing in the settings, which isn't great. Besides that, everything was great.
So yeah, not really a fan of the 150 feed limit on the Inoreader free thing (and I sure as shit am not paying for it), so I'm not sure I'll continue using it or just stick with Feedly, since seemingly the only issue (so far) is with Scalzi's site (and since I get separate emails notifications whenever Whatever is updated, I don't even really need the RSS feed for it the start with). Aside from those not insignificant issues, though, I don't really see much difference between the two otherwise. Well, other than that Inoreader is default blue-ish, whereas Feedly is default green-ish, so Inoreader wins on that point, if nothing else.
