This is probably just about as close as TV can get to those kind of things without crossing the line, assuming there even is a line there to cross. I wouldn't doubt that there are people even now who'd love to make a reality TV show based on gladiatorial combat if they could get away with it, or that there are other people who'd jump at the chance to be on such a show, even at the risk of almost certain death. There would definitely be plenty of people willing to watch such a show, that's for sure. Luckily, there are laws against such things, at least for now. ^^;
I guess one thing the reality shows have going for them is that all of the participants actually choose to be there. That is more than can be said for the bears, roosters, or even most Roman gladiators. Not quite sure if that makes it better or worse, though. ¬_¬
