If you already have the game, and if you can take the storyline with a grain of salt, the gameplay itself is... okay, I guess. Pretty fun, for what it is. Well, if you set it to autoblock (such that Kain automatically blocks incoming hits while you hold the block button) instead of trying to block shit manually (by trying to time presses of the block button to the incoming hits), anyway. Or, at least, I found it almost unplayable when trying to use that manual block shit, even if manually blocking is supposed to build your special moves meter more quickly or whatever. I don't really remember much about it.

But yeah, in my opinion, the BO2 plot just takes a huge, steaming dump all over the lore built up from the previous games. Characters that died in previous games are inexplicably back in this one, and that's even when you take into account the wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey blob that is the rest of the Legacy of Kain series, even all the way back to the first Blood Omen game.

Even though I'm fairly sure Amy Hennig, the main writer for the rest of the LoK series, didn't have anything to do with Blood Omen 2, she does try to explain it and fit it in (http://www.thelostworlds.net/Defiance/Question_and_Answer_with_Amy_Hennig.html) later on. I guess I can buy that the way Kain and Raziel fucked the timeline in Defiance could maybe lead to the events of BO2 happening the way they did... if I kind of squint and tilt my head. My best guess is that at least a part of the story of Defiance was Hennig's attempt to shoehorn the mess that is Blood Omen 2 in with the rest of the series, or at least to set it up so that BO2 could at least be possible (though apparently some of that stuff was cut out from Defiance, such as an explanation for why the fuck Vorador was still around in BO2). In any case, I guess I would recommend that if you do ever play the series again, save Blood Omen 2 for after Defiance, even though BO2 was released first.

As for me, I have all of the games, including BO2 but minus the original Blood Omen, on GOG.com, and the only thing that has stopped me from trying to replay the series as a whole again is the lack of BO1. I may just breakdown and pirate the PC version of BO1 at some point, or the PS1 BO1 and play that on an emulator or something, though I'd much rather buy the PC version legit, preferably from GOG, if it were to ever show up on there. >_> My best guess as to why BO1 isn't available anywhere is that Denis Dyack and what used to be Silicon Knights are still buttmad and are just being dicks about the whole thing.
