I just finished Worm, an online serial about a girl who has the superpower to control insects. I'm not going to say an awful lot about it, due to spoilers, but it's very good. It's also very long, weighing in at almost one million, seven hundred thousand words. It's kind of hard to think that (my reading of) it is done now, honestly. I'd been reading on this thing, off and on, for about five months now. It's like playing some huge, epic RPG or something and finally beating the final boss and watching the ending... and it's like... oh... it's over now. Huh.
I'm just glad I didn't have to wait several days between updates like the people who read it as it was being uploaded had to do. Then again, I read a lot of currently ongoing webcomics, so it probably wouldn't have been that terrible.
Before I started reading it, I saw it described as "Godzilla Threshold: The Web Serial," and that's not too far off the mark. It starts off fairly dark and gets darker and more cataclysmic as the story goes on (but nowhere remotely close to the point of Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy [even if Worm itself has an entry on that page], at least not for me, YMMV).
Top three favorite characters (not including Taylor, the protagonist), in this order: Dragon, Tattletale, and (eventually) Bitch.
The music I played almost constantly while reading this was the Bad Mojo soundtrack on infinite repeat, primarily "Basement Suite," "Roger's Room," and the two longer versions of the main theme. At first, it was kind of facetious, in a "har har, they're both stories about bugs, hur hur" way, but after a while, when I'd briefly try other music, I just couldn't settle on anything else and kept coming back to the Bad Mojo OST.
Anyway, since I'm done with Worm, I will now (or soon, i.e.tomorrowlater today) be starting on the little Glow-worm interlude thing, before moving on to the proper sequel, Ward.
After that, I'll move on to Wildbow's other works, Pact, Twig, and the apparently currently in-progress (oh noes) Pale.
