It's kind of weird that I'm already up to episode 91 of Critical Role. That means I'm 25 episodes away from being done with it[1]. Hell, on the other end of it, when I was only 25 episodes into it, Orion was still there. >_>;
[1] - The first campaign (Vox Machina), that is. There's still all of the 141 episodes of the second campaign (Mighty Nein), obviously, along with Exandria Unlimited, and then whatever one-shot sessions I want to watch, which is probably most of them. And also Talks Machina, on top of all that. So yeah, overall, I'm still not even halfway through all of it yet. >_>;; And that's not even counting the animated show, The Legend of Vox Machina, whenever that comes out, because I will watch the shit out of that, too.

Date: 2021-09-06 06:23 am (UTC)From:Somewhat spoilery, but... at one point near the end of that, the difference between success and the campaign basically grinding to a halt right then and there hinged entirely on the result of a single death saving throw. If said throw had failed, given who it was that would have died (i.e. the only person who had the Plane Shift spell), and given where the party was at the time (i.e. in a prison under a city in one of the Nine Hells), and given the fact that they stupidly went into literal Hell without their fucking cleric, they would have been extremely fucked, proper and entire. Sure, the rest of the party would have still been alive at that point, but they had no other way out of the prison, let alone Hell itself. Matt Mercer himself said, "That would have been campaign over."
Granted, it's all mitigated by the fact that I knew that they obviously were going to succeed, since there are still 22 more episodes in this campaign, but that was still some intense shit. If I'd been watching this shit live, as it happened... Holy fuck. o_O
Now, even though it's almost 2:30am, I'm gonna watch the Talks Machina episode about this, where I'm sure they'll discuss all of that.
