Well, I mean, you know... the biggest reason why this is even a problem in the first place is because idiots like that guy's friend are stupidly paying real world cash money to other players for in-game items that don't actually exist in a real world sense. If they weren't doing that shit, then maybe they wouldn't have to worry about scammers at all. As much as I loathe scammers in general, I have to admit that in specific cases like this, I feel like "More power to the ones taking advantage of fools with too much money."
That said, as far as just trading items in game goes, yeah, it seem pretty boneheaded that Bethesda hasn't implemented a way to streamline how that is done in game. Do that, and the problem will vanish. Or, at least, it will change, as scammers find new ways to part these fools from their apparent excess of money. Not that the scammers deserve the money any more, because fuck the scammers, too.
Not that any of this really matters to me in more than just a basic, academic way, since I don't play Fallout 76 or any other game where this type of thing could be an issue, because, as this story once again proves, the general public is pure shit.
