MSN Virtual Earth To Take On Google Earth
This has to be a joke. Either that, or Microsoft is making the horrible mistake of confusing Google Earth with Google Maps. Or, more likely, Microsoft intended it as competition for Google Maps to begin with, and the writer of this article is the one confusing it with Google Earth. Either way, Virtual Earth is no match whatsoever for Google Earth, at least not at this point in time. Google Maps... maaaaybe. But not Google Earth.
Google Earth rocks very muchly, as some already know. Especially when you use it enough to become familiar with some of the cooler but less obvious features of the software. (*cough*image overlays*cough*)
For some examples of the coolness of Google Earth for those who haven't seen this stuff yet, I give you the Google Earth Community. My favorite subforums are Models and Annotations and Dynamic Data Layers. All you have to do is open a thread that seems interesting and if it has an "Open this Placemark" link at the top, just click on it, download it, and open it in Google Earth. Simple as that. I'm pretty sure you'll be amazed by some of the stuff that can be found there. My favorite example of 3D objects is the USS Enterprise, NCC 1701, no bloody A, B, C, or D, and my favorite example of image overlays is the solar system.
