"Adults would just make up bullshit. Your teachers, your parents, would just make up a lie on the spot to make it look like they knew what you were asking... And you had no way to check."
It's funny (weird, not ha ha) because we're kind of getting back to those days, what with all the ridiculous mis/disinformation that pervades the Internet now, severely muddying the waters for anyone trying to get at the real truth of a thing. Or, perhaps, we never actually left those days at all.
I mean, just consider that we're long past the point where idiots will distrust and dismiss the word of objective factcheckers because they (the idiots) claim that they (the factcheckers) are "too woke" or whatever the fuck, mainly because the factcheckers are pointing out the blatant, obvious lies being spewed by the ones they're factchecking (e.g. Trump, other GQP politicians, QAnon nutjobs, Birthers, Truthers, etc.), and the ones being factchecked happen to be on the "side" of the idiots. It's fucking asinine.
It feels like a lot of the really ludicrous stuff that very stupid people believe these days (e.g. vaccines cause autism, 5G causes cancer, mail-in voting is rife with fraud, child sex traffickers operate in the basement of a pizzeria that doesn't have a basement, etc.) are exactly some of those things that some asshole just made up on the spot to try to sound smart, like what Pat and Woolie are discussing here, and it just snowballed out of control. I mean, QAnon is explicitly that. Some encrusted dickhole on 4chan just made up a story out of whole cloth about Trump being some secret hero fighting against pedophile Democrats or whatever. And now millions of dumbfucks will go to their graves believing that it's actually true and isn't really just a lake of putrid diarrhea that some rando on 4chan squirted out of his ass.
