Over the past month or so, I have gone from getting no spam at all to over 80 of the goddamned things sitting in my inbox this morning (and probably have received at least half that many more again just between this morning and now). It started as a trickle a few weeks ago or so, but now it has become a fucking deluge.

And it's really loony, flagrantly spam shit, like...

...and other such brazen dumbshit like that. And all of the email addresses associated with this blatant spam shit are invariably giant strings of random characters and certainly not anything that would even remotely resemble an email from Disney or Walmart or any other actually legitimate business.

On the one hand, I don't get how spammers can be so fucking stupid as to think that anyone at all ever would fall for glaringly kooky shit like that.

On the other hand, I know damn well that some people out there really are so fucking stupid that they would fall for lame shit like that, otherwise the spammers wouldn't keep blasting out dozens upon dozens of emails like that hoping for a bite.

At first, I was just updating my spam filters on Thunderbird to better automatically delete them on arrival, but now I've also started forwarding them to a few .gov emails that I found online which apparently exist explicitly for the purpose of having spam/phishing emails forwarded to them. Probably a useless endeavor, though, outside of mild catharsis.

Spammers actually make their spam blatantly obvious like that on purpose: They don't want to waste their time hooking anyone with half an actual brain in their head, they only want people who are stupid enough to actually fall for something like this. Being a blindingly obvious trap is a natural filter against basic intelligence.
