Not too sure about the main premise of this article, but I will say this much: if Disney ever made a movie/show/game/whatever in which all the Disney Princesses™ (and throw in Elsa and Anna and all the others who aren't officially Disney Princesses™ as well, just for good measure) were to team up to, say, fight all of their respective villains who had also teamed up... or even just teamed up to, like, do mundane slice-of-life stuff, that's something that I, a 40-something dude with no kids, would be willing to watch, let alone the little girls who are their primary target audience. It could potentially be the next MLP:FiM, at least if Disney treated such a thing with the respect it deserved. It could be like Kingdom Hearts, only without all the Squeenix baggage and convoluted plotlines and time-travel antics and such.

(And all the "anti-woke" broseph asshole types who'd just trash such a thing as "pandering" or "virtue signalling" or whatever can go sit firmly on a saguaro.)

That's actually not that far off from the plot of the Descendants franchise, except instead of the Disney princesses and villains it's their kids mostly just trying to live a normal life while dealing with their parents baggage. The cast is all new though, with the actual heroes and villains we [love|hate] mostly relegated to being name drops or middle-aged cameos.

I haven't watched the animated stuff yet. I got into the franchise mostly because Youtube just randomly started recommending me songs from the soundtrack and they were stupidly catchy and enjoyable to watch in that overproduced overchoreographed pop music way that Disney do. And since the movies were included in D+ I figured why not.

All I can say is I enjoyed them significantly despite obviously not being the target demographic for it. Even though some parts were cringe beyond believing, especially in the first movie. That is not a word I use lightly, or ever, but it is warranted. I still enjoy them in spite of that.

I don't know if that's a recommendation or a warning. Take it as you will.
