I mean, it would probably keep one safe enough if one were still an independent entity and not beholden to any sort of upper management, but, yeah, once one has sold out to a bigger company, all bets are off. Lesson to be learned (but which repeatedly fails to be learned): do not sell out your doing-pretty-well-for-yourself small game studio to a huge, soulless corporation. It never, ever ends well.
Also, maybe don't become a huge, soulless corporation, either, because at that point, you will have become the villain. *looks at pretty much every big company to have ever existed.*
