Full headline, because of the usual reasons: "Indie dev baffled after acquaintance clones his game, puts it on Steam, and acts like it's no big deal: 'Happens every day homie'"
Goes to show that indie devs can be just as scummy as big soulless companies.
(See also: this so-called "developer" also has not one but two obvious Vampire Survivors ripoffs as well, one "released" and another "coming soon.")

Date: 2024-06-07 01:50 am (UTC)From:I mean, what he did with his latest release - cloning, apparently quite closely, the game of a person that had actually gave him tips and suggestions, etc - that's just outright shitty behavior. The other two games are Vampire Survivor type games... but I mean, there are hundreds of VS type games out there now. At this point it's a genre all it's own. Note I haven't played either of them so I don't know how close to VS they were, or if there was a VS clone that he cloned, etc. And I ain't bothering to sift through steam trying to find out.
Regardless of that, I'm pretty much VS'ed out. I often tend to ignore the VS clones as they show up in my discovery queue. I would have just waited until these arrived in the discovery queue to ignore them, but given what he did with the third game there's a very high chance imo that he did the same with the previous two. So why wait.
The problem with this guy is that he seems to have confused "copying a game" and "copying a style or gameplay mechanic" because it is indeed "no big deal" to be making games that play like other (usually popular) games on the market. Sadly for him though, that's not what he did.

Date: 2024-06-07 02:49 am (UTC)From:I just mentioned the guy's other games mostly as a parenthetical side comment simply to show that nothing else the guy has done is remotely original, either, even if they're not nearly exact one-to-one glaring copies the way the Wildcard thing is.
(Though, with that said, some people are claiming that guy's Tiny Survivors game is more of a direct ripoff of another game called Tiny Rogues, but I don't know enough about either to be able to make that determination myself. But even then, the Tiny Survivors thing doesn't look as much like a one-to-one copy of the Tiny Rogues game as the Wildcard thing is a one-to-one copy of Dire Decks, at least from what tiny bit I looked at them. For what little it's worth, even the Tiny Rogues game looks like less of a blatant clone of Vampire Survivors than this guy's Tiny Survivors game does, though, so I'm not sure the claim that Tiny Suvivors is a complete ripoff of Tiny Rogues holds water [i.e. Tiny Survivors still seems like more of a bog standard VS-clone than it does a Tiny Rogues-clone.] *shrug*)
