So, in anticipation of the upcoming heat dome or whatever the fuck the weather people are calling it, my sister decided that it would probably be a good idea to finally (despite it having been 85°F+ for at least the past week or three already) uncover the outside AC unit (we usually put something over the top vent during the late fall/winter/earlylate spring months to keep leaves and such from falling into it and gumming it up) and give it a test run. And... of fucking course, the goddamn thing just clicked a little bit and never properly came on.
So, now, she says she'll call our "president of AC Corporation" brother-in-law at some point and ask him to "come take a look at it" again, hoping that whatever is causing this will be "a simple fix." No clue what she's going to do if it's not a simple fix.
(Just to note, said brother-in-law has been trying to convince her to stop futzing around with this ancient shit and get a heat pump installed, which would, presumably, take care of not only the air conditioner situation but also the heating situation, which I apparently haven't ever posted about before, the gist of which is this: the furnace that powered the central heating of this house was officially condemned several years ago, so we've been relying on small space heaters, a larger propane heater set up in the living room, and lots and lots of extra layers of clothing for warmth in the winter since then.)
So, yeah, everything about this is... ...just wonderful. *weary goddamned sigh* I might be moving back down to the basement again sometime soon (hopefully temporarily, but who knows)...
