I just wish he would back down from being the president altogether. And pick up all his trash (e.g. Elon Musk, RFK Jr., all the other dimwits he has on his cabinet, etc.) and take it all with him on the way out, too.
Pie in the sky, pipe dream.
On an infinitesimally less fanciful note, a morbid part of me kind of wishes that someday, hopefully soon, the rest of the world (minus Putin and a few others, I guess) as a collective whole will finally come together and stop trying to "finesse" the situation and just treat it like how it actually is and state in no uncertain terms: Donald Trump is a tantrum-throwing toddler who simply cannot be effectively reasoned with, and until he stops being the POTUS (whether that's four years from now or sooner [or, heavens forbid, later]), they won't deal with the US at all, in any way, shape, or form, via trade or diplomacy or whatever. Not just merely enact minor tit for tat stuff or whatever, but literally just do the equivalent of putting the United States in "time out" until it learns its lesson, same as an exasperated parent might do with a recalcitrant child. Let all the "America First" assholes see how they like it if America really does have to go it entirely alone for a while.
That's almost assuredly not feasible in any real way, probably especially for Canada and Mexico, though. And, of course, the tantrum-throwing toddler also currently commands the world's scariest military (which he has constantly threatened to "not take off the table," re: things like taking control of Greenland and such), so I completely get why the world at large is trying to handle the whole thing with kid gloves.
I say all that as a citizen of the United States who, directly or indirectly, would have to deal with the aftermath. My country is properly fucked up and broken right now and in a way that would have been fairly easily preventable had 77 million people (or even just a 4-5% of that 77 million) not collectively brainsharted in November 2024, and there's not a damn thing I can do about it other than rant about it on Dreamwidth. It sucks.
