A post on WIL WHEATON dot NET.

Also, this, which he has embedded in that post there:

"'I Survived Being a Child Star' Wil Wheaton: How to Heal Trauma & Believing Aliens are Out There"

"Wil Wheaton (TBBT, bestselling author, award-winning audiobook narrator, host of It's Storytime with Wil Wheaton) is back in the MBB studio, and he's opening up like never before about his deeply personal journey as a trauma survivor. From grappling with the scars of being raised by emotionally immature and narcissistic parents to surviving abuse on a movie set, he shares the emotional tools and therapies that have helped him heal, including EMDR and IFS therapy. He dives into the mind-bending connections between quantum physics, nonlinear time, and reparenting your inner child, while exploring fascinating topics like extraterrestrial life, simulation theory, and telepathy. Get ready for an eye-opening conversation on how trauma has shaped every aspect of Wil's life, his thoughts on the dangers of spiritual charlatans, and his cautious approach to psychedelics. Don't miss this thought-provoking as we connect the dots between science, spirituality, and the unknown!"

From Mr. Wheaton's post above:

"You also get to see me get triggered in real time, realize it, recover from it, and address what happened. It’s a little embarrassing to see myself fuck up like that, in public no less, and be reactive when I want to be responsive, but I feel like it could be a valuable teaching moment and that’s worth a little embarrassment, if it’s helpful to literally anyone else in the world."

Anyway, outside of occasional full episodes of Some More News or Last Week Tonight (which I usually watch at 2x speed), or shorter clips from things like Castle Super Beast (which I also usually watch at 2x speed), I don't normally make time to just sit back and listen to podcasts like this. But I did that for this one (at 1x speed, even), and I'm glad I did.

And it seems like I, too, have some "homework" now, which is to watch Arrival at some point and maybe also look into Sugar.

These again, too, just for shits and giggles:

"The switch from standard time to daylight saving time sparks an annual debate over whether the U.S. should pick one time and stick to it.

"In March, the Senate took a side, approving the Sunshine Protection Act, which aims to make daylight saving time permanent, beginning in 2023. The act still has to go to the House and the president.

"Shifting back and forth between times has been associated with an increased risk of heart attacks and motor vehicle crashes — especially in the spring, says Charles Czeisler, chief of the Division of Sleep And Circadian Disorders at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Shifting to one time could cut down on these effects and increase productivity. But Czeisler says there’s a problem with the Senate’s legislation: It settles on the wrong time."

Heard at least part of this story on the radio a few days ago.

For me, it's like, okay, step one should be abolishing the twice yearly switch altogether. Then, after that, if they incorrectly picked Daylight Saving Time instead of Standard time, they still have the opportunity to fix that problem, by switching everyone back over to Standard time one final time. Just so that they don't "fix" it by merely reinstating the twice yearly switch over, like they did before, because to fucking hell forever with that shit.

"This November, they call it Daylight Saving but the thing that needs saving...is us! WHAT TIME IS IT?!"

"They thought it was over...but this March, they have to Spring Forward to find the vanishing hour. WE STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS!"

Yeah... that's a thing that's happening yet again soon, isn't it.

Obligatory, also:

Also, we never "needed" it. Not ever.

Oh fucking hell. On top of everything else.

I am going to just cut/paste that previous post right here into this new post, because not a single goddamned thing is different, except that it's 2017 instead of 2016.

Original post:

"Fuck Daylight Saving Time," by Wil Wheaton.

I absolutely agree. Fuck Daylight Saving Time. We need to just pick one or the other and fucking stick with it year round. Stop making us pointlessly change the clocks twice a year. It's fucking asinine. If you live in an area of the world that doesn't do this stupid bullshit, consider yourself fortunate.

Fuck G.V. Hudson. Fuck William Willett. Fuck Benjamin Franklin (even if he was just joking). Fuck the Romans. Fuck anybody and everybody who has thought, is currently thinking, and ever will think that Daylight Saving Time, or anything even remotely similar to Daylight Saving Time, is a good idea.

Yeah.

I kind of hate that Benjamin Franklin tends to get most of the credit/blame for this all the time, though, since he was suggesting it mostly as a joke, rather than actually seriously. The real asshole here, as far as modern DST is concerned, was William WilletGeorge Vernon Hudson.

Ah well, at least we're "gaining" an hour this time instead of "losing" one, I guess?
kane_magus: (The_Sims_Medieval)
Oh, that's right. "Spring forward" and all that shit tonight. -_- Fuck that noise (and William Willet, of course, as usual).

More reruns.

DST sucks

Once again, I'd like to take the time to call a few plagues down upon William Willett, Benjamin Franklin, the Romans and whoever else thought Daylight Saving Time was a good idea.

Hmm, apparently Daylight Saving Time now starts this Sunday, March 11, rather than some time in April like it used to. The blame for this falls on the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

So, yeah, we lose an hour this Sunday. Just wonderful. I was not aware of this until today.

Just a heads up to anyone else who didn't already know about this.

Kiss my ass, William Willett.

Note to self: actually change the clocks next time, instead of saying "Oh, I'm too tired to bother going around and changing them now. I'll just change them tomorrow. Surely I'll remember to get up at the right time."

Also, as I've said before, Sunday/holiday bus schedules suck ass.
kane_magus: (Default)
Oh wait... it's 4:30 now because of fucking Daylight Savings Time. Argh. I turned to head to bed and noted that my other clock read 3:30 and was like, "What? ...oh, wait. Damn it." I hate losing an hour like this. I knew I wasn't going crazy and that I hadn't stayed up so much later than I had expected. Well, I did stay up later than I had expected, but not as late as I had originally thought. It's still damn annoying, though.
