I'll just say that Charlie Kirk was one of a great many people that I did not and do not care for at all, so I'm not losing sleep over the fact that he's gone now. That's why I didn't say anything more in the initial post, to try to avoid sounding like an asshole about it. "Don't speak ill of the dead" or "too soon" or whatever, but... fuck that. Charlie Kirk was not a good person. Him having been murdered now doesn't magically change that.
With that said, generally speaking, the fact that anyone can just be assassinated like that, whatever the reason and regardless of who they were, isn't great. More specifically speaking, if anything, I mostly feel bad about the fact that I don't feel worse about this. I don't think he should have been shot, but the fact that he was shot simply doesn't bother me as much as I feel like it should. Basically, I'm kind of simultaneously on both sides of this conversation, except without the holier-than-thou satire. (I assume this Instagram video is visible to everyone, considering that even I can see it, and I've never had an Instagram account. I did have to temporarily turn off NoScript first, though.)
In any case, whatever ambivalent apathy or even mild, tepid schadenfreude I might be feeling now is but a dim, guttering candle to the entire galaxy of suns I would be feeling if this news had been about Donald Trump himself, instead of "just" Charlie Kirk. And speaking of Trump, of course... honestly, from my perspective, probably the worst thing about all this is that it seems to have driven Trump completely bug/batshit (more so than he already was, anyway), and we're all going to suffer for Trump's blatant, flagrant hypocrisy.
