Eagerly-awaited Gamecube title The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will mark the end of an era for the hit series, according to a transcript of a recent radio interview with Shigeru Miyamoto.

"This will be, without a doubt, the last Zelda game as you know it in its present form," Miyamoto is quoted as saying.

This could be a good thing, if it just means that they'll be going in a new direction with later games. However, if Nintendo has indeed gone completely off their rockers and are ending the Zelda series altogether (which is how I've seen lots of people interpreting this in the few minutes I've spent looking into it since finding the above article)... that's a lot less good. I personally don't think they'll be ending the Zelda series altogether though, since that would be the equivalent of them cutting down a money tree. A tree that is made of money, produces more money in a bountiful fruit form, absorbs money from the soil around it, and uses photosynthesis to convert sunlight into money. Why would anyone cut down such a tree?

They imply later in the same article that Zelda will just be getting an overhaul in the future, as I suspected, rather than ending. Not only that, but it seems that Mario will be getting one as well. I'm guessing most people just read the article far enough to get to the "last Zelda game" line and immediately went into hyper OMGWTF!!! state.

***Edit***

Also...

Miyamoto also revealed that Mario is getting a brand new sidekick, but kept firmly schtum on the details.

*cough*whathappenedtoLuigi*cough* ¬_¬

They either need to make a game where you play as Mario with Luigi as the final ultimate boss or (preferably) a game where you play as Luigi with Mario as the final ultimate boss. Maybe Luigi could team up with Donkey Kong or even Bowser for a serious Mario beat down.

Huh. forgot about the game. >.> I'm guessing I'll end up getting it later in the year whenever I have more money. Ah well, it's probably one of the few games that I'd want to try to afford. ^^;
