It's currently a little after 4:00am as I start writing this, and I just woke several minutes ago from one of the stranger dreams I've had in a long while.
The content of the dream is very simple: I was listening to a Five Iron Frenzy cover of one of the songs from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Not only that, but as I was listening to the song, I was also reading the lyrics and liner notes to said song from the CD cover of the album on which this song was a part.
And then I woke up, realized it was just a dream, and was quite sad and disappointed and not just a little bit vexed because, damn it, it just made so much sense during the dream itself.
However, the worst of it is that now I simply cannot, for the life of me, remember which song it was that they'd covered. I'm not even sure it actually was one of the real songs from the show that they were covering. All I know is that there was a general "this is a FiF cover of a FiM song and it's pretty damn cool" theme to the dream, even if whatever song (complete with lyrics that I don't remember now) wasn't actually on the show. I want to say it had something to do with Rainbow Dash's bit from "At the Gala" because that's what was going through my head immediately after I woke up[1], but I don't think that was really it, though.
The only other thing I remember fully was that one of the lines had notes next to it saying something about how that though this particular line shared the same lyrics and four-note melody from the same line as played earlier in the song, a different four-note melody from a different song was also played over top of the original melody to indicate that the theme of the song was subtly changing. I don't have the slightest damn clue what that means now, but again, it just made so much sense during the actual dream. I just wish I remembered what the lyrics and melodies in question actually were.
This is so damn aggravating, you have no idea. D:< Enough so that I felt the need to get up and write a LJ post about it before I felt that I could possibly go back to sleep again, at least. >_>;
After doing a Google search for "five iron frenzy my little pony friendship is magic", the only even remotely relevant things I found were this and this. Neither of these things are actually relevant to my dream, however, because that Google search was the first time that I'd ever seen (or heard, in the case of the song) either of those things. There are other ska versions of MLP:FiM songs out there as well but, again, I've never heard any of those prior to this moment either.
One good thing I got out of this experience is that I have now learned that FiF reunited as a band in 2011 after having broken up in 2003. I was unaware of the fact that they'd reunited. That's pretty cool. Yeah, they're a Christian band, and no, I'm not really into that sort of thing anymore myself, but I'm still a fan of their music at least, generally speaking.
[1] - Another possible reason for this, too, is that I was also thinking of Rainbow Dash's stage theme from the upccoming Fighting is Magic fan game, which I've been listening to recently.
