GiantBomb's "similar games" thing
Sep. 29th, 2015 11:53 pmI very rarely look at GiantBomb. I've heard it's a cool site, and supposedly an actually decent alternative to shit like Destructoid or Kotaku or whatever. But I don't use it myself, on the whole.
However, I have found that their "similar games" feature is pretty neat. I stumbled across it just now when doing a search for games like Aquaria. But through that, I've found several new (or, at least, new to me) games like that and others, some of which I'd never heard of before but have now also added to my Steam wishlist, if nothing else (the ones that are available on Steam, anyway, since a lot of the ones that show up are console games, naturally).
Some other decent examples:
Metroid
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Dwarf Fortress
X3 Terran Conflict
Planescape: Torment
Silent Hill
There might be other, better, easier ways to do this same sort of thing that I'm not aware of (and if there are, please let me know), but for now at least, this is a pretty good start.
I'm aware that Steam itself has a "More like this" feature, but that only works with games that are on Steam to begin with (which, of course, Aquaria is, but some of those others are not). Still, that's a useful alternative, as well.
