And it starts. *weary sigh*
Apr. 10th, 2019 11:37 amWindows 7 SP1 support notification
Applies to: Windows 7 Service Pack 1
Summary
After 10 years of servicing, January 14, 2020, is the last day Microsoft will offer security updates for computers running Windows 7 SP1. This update enables reminders about Windows 7 end of support. More information about Windows 7 end of support can be found at www.microsoft.com/windows7 or you can review the frequently asked questions.
Knew it was coming, knew they weren't going to support Win7 forever, but it's still goddamned aggravating to be reminded of it. Welp... guess it's time to finally start thinking about seriously looking into Linux or whatever. Or else I'll just start using my Win8 laptop as my "main" computer (at least until they drop support for Win8, a few years later). Or maybe both of those things.
I mean, just because Win7 stops being supported doesn't mean I have to stop using it immediately, but it does mean that hackers/virus writers are probably going to redouble efforts on it once they know that their shit won't be immediately counteracted, so... yeah, there's that to consider.
(I hid the update, by the way. Let's see if they "unhide" it next month, like they kept doing for all the Windows 10 shit a few years ago.)
