"Thoughts and prayers"
Aug. 22nd, 2019 02:21 pmI'm just going to say it straight out: for now and for the foreseeable future, the phrase "thoughts and prayers" is and will likely remain one of my most hated phrases, perhaps the most hated, in the entirety of the English language. This is irrespective of the application thereof or the context in which it is being used, as I'm to the point now where I don't like its use in even the most innocuous of circumstances. I can't help but grit my teeth in aggravation now each and every time I see or hear it. It is so incredibly banal, trite, tiresome, mindless, vacuous, platitudinous, annoying, irritating, enraging, obnoxious, disgusting, sickening... ugh. At this point, I don't even want to see it being used ironically by those who are doing so explicitly to mock it. I loathe it, perhaps unreasonably, irrationally so, but still, that's just how I feel now. I despise it. I hate it. It needs to go away and die. If I had my way, it would be extirpated from the English language forever.
