Honestly, I knew nothing of this until recently, when I happened to check my old 1up.com account (which was still sending stuff to my old, defunct email from years ago and, thus, I was not seeing it). I had gotten some emails from a few of the members there concerning "saving King's Quest IX".

The gist is that, since 2002 or so, a bunch of fans had begun work on making a King's Quest IX. They knew going in that Sierra/Vivendi could shut them down at any time, and now, appparently just as they were about to finally release the game, Sierra/Vivendi sent them a cease and desist, effectively killing the project.

Now, then. My curiosity piqued, despite the game having been killed, I looked up the site for the actual game. All I can say is... what a crying shame. Judging from the sample screenshots, music, and sound clips, this game would have been incredibly sweet. It's sad, though not at all unexpected, that Sierra/Vivendi would kill it though.

Here's the link for the first site, linked in those emails: http://www.savekqix.org/

The emails were basically saying things along the lines of emailing Sierra/Vivendi asking them to reconsider their decisions regarding the game and such. While I'm highly doubtful that any good will come of it, I clicked the link for their pre-made email and fired one off anyway.

GOD-THE-FUCK-DAMN-IT!

How can they pull the plug on something like that? That looked beautiful. All the screenshots I saw looked as if they drew heavily from King's Quest V, VI and VII. I really wish they'd find a way to finish that because it sounds incredible.
