Yeah, the whole thing was just a hoax. What a bunch of bullshit.

I'm sorely tempted to just download the games I already bought (but haven't been able to access for several days, and still can't even now), delete my bookmark and perhaps also my account there, if possible, and just take my business elsewhere. The only problem with that is, at this point, there isn't much of an "elsewhere" to go if one wants to purchase many of the old games they offer on the site, perhaps aside from paying scalpers on eBay, which I refuse to do. Steam has some, but by no means all of them.

This was a really, really retarded idea on your part, GOG. I seriously hope the dumbasses who came up with this harebrained scheme lose their jobs over this.

I don't know, maybe time will heal all wounds and I'll go back again at some point in the future, but for right now, this has me really pissed off.

"First of all we would like to apologize everyone who felt deceived or harmed in any way by us closing down GOG.com without any warning and without giving access to your games. We apologize for that from the bottom of our hearts!"

But they apologized!

If they really want to "apologize", then they can give existing customers a hardcore discount on everything in their store for the equivalent amount of time that the site was "down". Or maybe some free games or something. Perhaps then I might be a little more willing to piss on them if they were on fire.

If apologies always made things OK again we would never need lawyers.

While I agree it was stupid marketing tactic, it doesn't change the fact that their service is a good one.

I mean, if we were to never buy a good product because of a stupid marketing tactic, I doubt we would buy much at all.

People constantly pay for bad products and services that have slick marketing and the one time a good service has bad marketing, people are saying they want to stop using their service?

Sorry, that logic just doesn't make much sense to me.

And while I'm aware that people didn't have access to the games they had purchased but didn't download yet, GoG was quite clear that you would be able to download them once they had their alternate system up (which to me, made it obvious that they were coming out of Beta and relaunching a new website).

I have seen dozens of Internet ventures close down forever, with a "but we'll be back soon and be even better than before! Honest!" message... and then that's the last you ever see of them. Their initial "oh woe is us, it's so hard, end of an era" message stunk exactly of that sort of thing, and, until the news started trickling in that it was probably just a retarded PR stunt, that's the way it seemed to me. And I was sad.

And then, after the news started trickling in that it was just a retarded PR stunt and then was finally confirmed as a retarded PR stunt... well, I was angry, and got angrier. So, you'll just have to forgive me if I now want to give them the cold shoulder for a while. This type of behavior doesn't deserve to be rewarded by blindly kissing their feet and rushing back to using the site, or else they (and others with their eye on this fiasco) will learn the lesson that it's perfectly okay to screw people over like this and then do something even more retarded next time. That's my take on it anyway.

I can see what you mean though. Again, it was a pretty stupid PR stunt but I'm glad they are still around though. Having them gone for good would only allow another similar service with laced DRM to pop up, and while I don't mind Steam, I'd rather have more GoG like digital distribution services.

Yeah, when all is said and done, I'm pretty much glad they're still around, too. There really isn't anyone around that offers quite the same thing they do.

I still think whoever their marketing person is needs at least a time-out in the corner for coming up with this lame stunt though.

However, now that their site is back up, I've tried 4 times now to download the stuff that I already bought from them, and all 4 times now, it has ended up with my browser locked up. Really aggravating.

Tried again in IE instead of Firefox, and it seemed to work okay then. Not sure what's up with Firefox and GOG not working though. Never had a problem with them in the past.
