I totally agree. While I liked Apocalypse and Onslaught and... um, whoever was the last boss of MvC2, Abyss or some such... well enough, there's just something awesome about Galactus that those others guys lack.

Though the site itself has unfortunately long since been lost to the ether, here's the Wayback Machine to the rescue for this particular page: "Who is the Single Most Powerful Being in Comicdom?" (http://web.archive.org/web/20020908004907/www.crossoveruniverse.com/spec3.htm) I found that pretty fascinating back in the day, and still do even now, since as of yet I haven't seen anyone put forth a more convincing argument for any other characters.
It's all terribly geeky, I admit, but it amuses me.
