Ominously, I almost feel like this was written specifically with me in mind.

Except maybe for #4. I made it through Dragon Age: Origins (and most of its DLC/expansions) okay, and I'm finally up to X3: Terran Conflict, after putting a literal average of 87.27 hours into the previous games in the series (according to Steam, I spent 76.2 hours on X: Beyond the Frontier, 113.2 hours on X2: The Threat, and 72.4 on X3: Reunion, and in addition to that I'm already up to 28.3 hours on Terran Conflict and I haven't done any of the missions yet, storyline or otherwise).

On the other hand, I still haven't progressed past chapter 3 of The Witcher, which I haven't had the heart yet to remove from my "Now Playing" list on Backloggery, even though I haven't touched it in about 2 months now, according to BL. And there are so many other long adventure/RPG games that I've played anywhere from half to three-fourths to right up to just before the final boss, but then just stopped playing because something else came up. So, no, I don't think games are too long. I still think most games these days aren't long enough. However, just because I like longer games, doesn't mean I tend to finish them all. These days, however, I tend to prefer open-ended sandbox-ish games, like the aforementioned X games as well as games like Mount & Blade and The Sims and Minecraft (though I haven't really played Minecraft for a few months now, and probably won't try to seriously get back into it again at least until the 1.9 update is released) and such, games which have potentially infinite length since they never really end. (The only reason I moved on from the earlier X games is because I finished the main story missions and wanted to play the next game in the series. With Terran Conflict, however, I foresee playing that off-and-on pretty much forever, even if I never get around to any of the missions. Well, at least until Rebirth eventually comes out, anyway, and maybe even after.)

The rest of the list though, yeah, all of that definitely describes me, particularly #5. Kids these days can like whatever they want, but I personally will never be into the Halos* and the Calls of Duty, sorry. Give me a Fallout (despite the fact that both Fallout 2 and Fallout 3 are among the aforementioned games that I've never yet finished, and that I don't even own New Vegas yet) or a Skyrim (despite the fact that Oblivion was also one of the aforementioned games that I haven't finished yet) any day, "bloat" and all. Now get off my lawn!

As an aside, I have to admit that though I also thought it was really weird that they did a zombie based DLC expansion, of all things, to Red Dead Redemption, man was that fun to play through. RDR, by the way, is one of the few recent long-ish games that I actually did manage to finish, and even got 100% on the storyline (but not on the achievements, since about half of them are stupid multiplayer achievements which I'll never get, because I don't play multiplayer; see point #5 from the article). The only sad thing about it is that Undead Nightmare was the only single-player DLC that they released for RDR that I'm aware of, with the rest being pointless, stupid little multiplayer things in which I have absolutely zero interest (again, see point #5).

(EDIT)

Disclaimer: I don't think I'm "too old" for video games. I'm not going to stop playing them any time soon. It's just that I agree with most of the points made in the article, both before and after the "But the Truth Is..." parts (though mostly the "before" stuff, honestly).

(/EDIT)

* - I actually own Halo 1-3. I bought them all on the cheap about a year ago or so for the express purpose of "finally seeing what all the fuss is about." I played maybe 2 or 3 hours into Halo 1, got bored with it, and haven't touched any of them since. What tiny bit I've played of Modern Warfare, the experience was the same.

And here is something that is pretty much completely unrelated to the above, aside from the fact that it also has to do with video games. Including it here since I found it amusing, but don't want to make another post so soon after this one just for it.
