If someone resurrects an old forum thread, regardless of whether said thread is 10 years old or only a week or two old, depending on the forum, they will invariably get at least one or two replies the sole purpose of which, rather than actually addressing the issue being (re)raised or the question being (re)asked, is to berate them for performing thread necromancy.

If one posts a new thread, on the other hand, even if the only other relevant thread is several years old, they will invariably get at least one or two replies the sole purpose of which, rather than actually addressing the issue being (re)raised or the question being (re)asked, is to berate them for not doing a search for older threads and posting to those instead of making a new one.

The policy is different and contradictory from forum to forum and nothing is ever consistent. Just something I've noticed in my years on the web. My intent is not to try to offer any solutions to this issue here, because I have none. I'm merely making an observation.
