Here's the dream in which I survived a nuclear explosion.

I was in the small two-room kind of shed/trailer/mobile home sort of thing. There wasn't much in the room I was in except for some random assorted stuff, a bit of furniture and such. It looked more like a storage room than a room intended to be lived in. Behind the building, and in view from the window of the wall opposite to the one I was near, but still seemingly miles away, was this big power-plant looking facility, which I somehow knew was about to explode. I was huddled in a corner with a lot of this stuff piled up around me because I knew it was about to happen and thought it would help shield me somewhat, except that it didn't happen for what seemed like quite a while.

After around 5 minutes or so (or what I thought of as "5 minutes" in the dream), my "parents" came into the room and started trying to hide as well. At this point, they weren't my actual IRL parents, but just random, generic, nondescript dream people that I merely thought of as "parents." After they got themselves buried in all of the junk in the room, that's when the explosion finally happened. Looking through the window, we saw this gigantic orange fiery mushroom cloud.

A little later, a shockwave hit the building we were in and it started to move. Almost immediately, all of the walls and ceiling were gone, leaving only the floor and all the junk in the room in which we were buried, but that remained with us and we kind of rode on it for the rest of the dream. Looking behind us, we saw nothing but this gigantic wall of flaming death following along behind us. As we were flying along, we saw these huge boulders ahead of us and thought we were about to smash into them. Instead, we were somehow diverted around these boulders. Dream logic (because we were trying to figure out how it happened even as it was happening) said that the shockwave had moved ahead of us, then bounced back into us, which pushed us out of the way of the boulders. Somehow.

So we were still flying along and now there was a dense forest in front of us. The same sort of thing happened as with the boulders, except that now we'd been turned 90 degrees to the right and were now moving parallel to the edge of the forest. Somehow, we were no longer in danger of being overtaken by the huge wall of fire that was no longer directly behind us.

Still flying along at a crazy speed, we saw another forest directly in front of us, but this one was completely on fire. Again, due to crazy dream logic "thermal updrafts" or whatever, we suddenly were shot upward and over this fire. As we started to enter the pitch black smoke above the fire, I immediately started holding my breath and closed my eyes, but my "mom" said something about sunlight so I opened my eyes again. We were now high up in the sky above the smoke and fire. Finally we flew beyond the forest fire and started to come back down.

Soon after that we landed (not crashed, landed) and were back in civilization again. Well, we were near a road anyway. This area was kind of distinctive, though it's not an area I recall ever seeing IRL. The forest fire was behind us and a bit below us, ahead and right was a sheer cliff, and to the left was a road, which went up this really steep hill then curved off to the left. Where we were, the road went down the hill and then into an underground tunnel which went under the forest fire.

We decided we should try to get some help. At this point, my "parents" had stopped being the random dream people and had actually became my IRL mother and father. My mom slid down the embankment to the road below and started waving down traffic, while my dad moved forward along the road toward a sort of rest stop area in the distance. My mom managed to flag down a car, which just happened to be a police car.

We all met up at the rest stop area and a bunch of other people were milling about, talking about what had just happened with the nuclear explosion and all. As my dad talked to the police officer (which happened to be a blonde woman again), I looked off toward the forest and watched the still towering mushroom fireball in the distance that was somehow no longer a threat to us.

And that was when I woke up. Yeah. I have no idea what was up with that one. It all kind of made sense at the time, but in retrospect it was even more ridiculous than the refrigerator scene from Indiana Jones 4.

An interesting dream. But yea, you're right... at least you didn't use a fridge!

You were the first one to see a disaster looming on the horizon, the first to know to take shelter and prepare for it, even before your "parents" - people who are older and supposed to be wiser/smarter than you. Then, thanks to your preparedness, you were able to "ride out" not just the initial blast, but the fallout that ensued.

Is there a disaster of some sort you see coming?

Nah, I don't think this was some kind of omen of real life events or anything like that. At least... I certainly hope not. >_>;
