And now it seems like the only thing Forbes Games talks about is fucking Flappy Bird. It's not literally the subject of every article from them in my news feed, but it's pretty close to being that. I am officially sick of seeing the phrase "Flappy Bird" now.

For the record, I've never heard of Flappy Bird prior to reading this article or seeing that some on my Facebook f-list are talking about it at the moment.
In a previous post, I gave some reasons for why I dislike mobile/Facebook games. The article linked above contains another facet of my loathing of those games, in the following quote: "The idea [for Flappy Bird] is lifted from a thousand other similar games before it. The art and sound effects are taken almost directly from Super Mario Bros, while the bird design and tap mechanics are from 2011′s Piou Piou. These are typical mobile games problems, and the fact that Flappy Bird has been so popular only reinforces the idea that other developers should try to clone their way to the top of the charts."
The fact that so many of the most successful mobile/Facebook games are apparently shamelessly ripped off from other games, either in concept or through material assets like artwork and sounds and such, is part of the reason why I dislike them so much and simply avoid the whole lot of them, especially when it's the shameless ripoffs that are more popular than the original games (e.g. Angry Birds vs Crush the Castle). This sort of thing was pretty much Zynga's entire modus operandi, for instance. If it's unfair for me to avoid an entire platform or two due to the fact that roughly 99.99% of games on that platform seem to be rip-offs, then so be it. If, however, someone can point me to a truly unique, "must play" Facebook game that doesn't have the problems mentioned above and in the previous posts, then I would be more than willing to give it a try, but I honestly doubt that's possible.
