I think the monitor on my computer is about to die. Lately, it never comes on as soon as I turn the computer on, but it usually has fired up before the boot process is complete, at least. However, on three or four mornings in the past month or so, including today, it hasn't come on at all for like ten to twenty minutes or more. It just sat there with the power light flashing blue repeatedly, and making some kind of faint cyclical whirring/grinding sound from somewhere on the inside left of the monitor. Once it finally comes on, though, I never have any more problems out of it, at least not until I turn the computer off for the night and try again the next morning.

This is a monitor that I used to keep on constantly, because I used to keep the computer itself on constantly, back when I lived in Washington, but now I always turn it off at night before I go to bed. Well, no, technically, I leave the monitor itself on when I turn off the computer, and the monitor just goes into standby mode or something (orange power light). I tried turning off the monitor itself one night, but the next morning was one of the mornings that it didn't come on for ten minutes or so, so I never did that again.

For reference, it's a five-year old Acer x223w monitor that I bought back in July 2009.

Are monitors expensive to buy? I think a widescreen one costs about RM200 here.
