Between this and that other thing from the other day, I think it's probably about time for Mojang to just stop using Bukkit altogether and make their own thing. Seems like it'd probably save them a lot of headache in the long run, especially since the (former?) Bukkit guys seem determined to prevent them from using it now, for whatever reason. Mojang could probably win this if it came to a court fight or something, because I'm fairly sure you can't use the GPL in the way this Wolvereness guy is trying to use it given that Minecraft itself isn't and never was GPL, but it'd probably be simpler to just cut the buttmad babies loose entirely and do their own thing.
Funny how Bukkit apparently only enforces GPL when it suits them, but otherwise doesn't (that was the third link I found when I did a Google search for "bukkit gpl").

As quite simply they are correct. The original minecraft code was never GPL'ed to begin with - and MOST IMPORTANTLY - there is no minecraft code in craftbukkit. Craftbukkit is an independent build that mimics minecraft and gives the additional API's and whatnot that only work on craftbukkit.
If they were to merge craftbukkit into the official minecraft server - yes, there would be an issue. But that's not happening. Craftbukkit itself is GPLed and so long as ITS source remains open and free (As in freedom, not necessarily free as in beer, as they say.) then there's absolutely nothing the original coder can do about it. So this is a bogus DMCA. And really the overall project BELONGS to Mojang as per the original coders. This primary coder has been willingly working on what has been for years MOJANGS PROPERTY.
So as far as a DMCA is concerned, he's completely in the wrong. As far as there being some conflict with the GPL... he's STILL in the wrong. The guy just wanted to kill Bukkit over the EULA changes (In which he's STILL wrong since what he's childishly lashing out against is the fact that Mojang simply started to declare an interest in ENFORCING the already existing EULA after making it less strict.)
Basically, he's acting like a child. He should grow up.
